BUTTON RUNWAY -always fashion-focused

The term style for the World Button Association revolves around the world of Fashion – thus the name Button Runway. Over the last year and a half we have visited fashion museums, manufacturers, and fashion university/college programs. We have visited a millinery store, visited with a costume designer, and chatted with people in Italy and the highlands of Scotland.

While our focus may seem different from antique button collecting, it’s a short journey back in time to understand the how, why, and what of fashion over the ages. The history of buttons is irrevocably tied to the evolution of fashion.

This hand-beaded and embroidered evening gown features long sleeves, a funnel neckline, and a body-hugging silhouette that gently flares towards the hem, creating an elegant and elongated shape. It is richly embellished with intricate beadwork and embroidery, carefully crafted to echo the handmade technique of the historic tapestries. The color palette offers a contemporary reinterpretation of the original tapestry tones. The original forest-green tones have been digitally manipulated and translated into rich shades of pink, creating a modern visual dialogue between historic textile art and contemporary fashion design.

This dress has been donated to Heritage Malta and will form part of the textile collection managed by the national agency.
